Mahashivarathri celebrations |

Every year, on Mahashivarathri, the students of IHS have the unique opportunity to spend an entire night with Sadhguru. At 5pm on February 12, the students’ as well as the teachers' excitement grew as they stood in line, dressed in their best attire, waiting to start their walk to the Mahashivarathri site. Arriving at the site was like stepping in to a different world. Within the darkness of the forest was a well lit place with thousands of, people bustling about while music filled the air. Finally everybody settled in their seats and it wasn't long before Sadhguru arrived and the celebrations began! Various renowned artists performed during the night long celebration of music, dance and joy.

“These festivities will surely boost musical and fine arts appreciation in the students.” - Prakash,a Senior school teacher said.
The students of IHS had a truly amazing experience participating in the 13 day celestial feast of music and dance leading to Mahashivarathri. The staff and students witnessed some of the most exuberant and renowned talents in music and dance. They were mesmerised by the full fledged kathak performance by Aditi Mangaldas and her troupe. Isha Home School also had the honor and privilege in special assemblies to interact with a few of these well known artists such as Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Sayeeduddin Dagar, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Anindo Chatterjee and Anubrata Chatterjee.

The students of Isha Home School, in an assembly gathering, got the rare opportunity of being with Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, a world-renowned exponent of the bansuri or the bamboo flute. His excellent sense of humor along with his musical talents entertained all of us. He gave the children lots of tips on playing flute and kept the conversation going in Hindi and encouraged the students to ask questions.

Ustad Sayeeduddin Dagar's assembly was a fun-filled learning as he stole our hearts with his sense of humor and made the session lively and interesting. Ustadji belongs to the unbroken lineage of the illustrious Dagar family of Dhrupad music. Also accompanying him were Nafeesuddeenji and Aneesuddeenji, his two sons and disciples and his long time disciple Poornima Kulkarni, who are artists of their own right.

In a more intimate setting, the students of IHS welcomed one of India's greatest tabla maestros, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee for a special assembly. Just a day before the assembly, the students witnessed the skill, power and dexterity on the tabla by Panditji and his son during the Yaksha concert. Panditji demonstrated the instrument and explained how it works.
