Drama Workshop by Ellen Walter

Under the guidance of Ms. Ellen Walter, veteran performer and visiting drama teacher from the Kodaikanal International School, Isha Home School students participated in a month-long intensive drama workshop, which culminated in three very dynamic performances, entitled ‘Grammar Garden’, ‘The Jazz Fly’ and ‘Star Search’.

Isha Home School was privileged to host Mr. Sebastian Belmar and Mrs. Natalia Matus from Circulo-Francia, professionals in contemporary circus who currently conduct training in the art of circus in Paris, France. The versatile artists conducted a month long intensive workshop on contemporary circus with our Junior School, which culminated in a performance on 6th August. The students learnt the art of clowning, acrobatics, trapeze and juggling. As it was contemporary circus, it did not include animals; instead it was a subtle fusion incorporating many elements of circus, dance, theater, yoga and kalarippayattu. They also extended their expertise and gave a few sessions to our Middle School students.

Assembly by Angela PapillonAngela Pappillon is an avid student of dance and comes from Tribal Echo Productions. She learnt several forms of folk dances from around the world including Flamenco from Spain and has even been exposed to Bharatnatyam. She performed two pieces for the children in the Assembly in January '09. During her improvised performances, she gets involved in the music and allows something deeper to be expressed, leaving room for creativity to flow in the moment.

Assembly with Prahlad Kakkar

Leading film ad director and environmentalist, Prahlad Kakkar visited the school and spoke to the students on the impact of global warming on coral reefs, particularly in and around India. A scuba-diving connoisseur and director of a scuba-diving school in Lakshadweep, he took the children on a journey of the underwater world and spoke about the importance of marine conservation. He very kindly gave the school the Academy award winning short animation film, ‘The Man Who Planted Trees’. The students were very inspired by this multi-faceted personality.

Former MD and CEO of HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company Ltd, Mr. Deepak Satwalekar addressed the Senior students in an assembly gathering in December '07. Mr Satwalekar, who did his B.Tech from IIT, Bombay and his MBA in the US, spoke about his journey of life. He shared that even though he grew up in a remote village in India, it was because of his determination and will power that he pursued his studies and attended IIT and later became the CEO of a world renowned company. The students enjoyed an interactive session with Mr. Satwalekar. At the end of the session, he mentioned that he was impressed by the depth of their questions.
