A Tribute to Saint Tyagaraja

Senior School Carnatic music students and teachers came together to present a musical offering on the occasion of Tyagaraja Aradhana. Saint Tyagaraja, one of the greatest composers of the Carnatic classical music tradition, composed thousands of devotional compositions, mostly in Telegu and in praise of Lord Rama. Shreya M, Class 11 student, presented the well-known composition, Brova Barama. Of special mention are five of his compositions called the Pancharatna Kritis (English: ‘five gems’). Students presented the Sankrit kriti, Jagadananda Karaka, in which Tyagaraja extols the virtues of Ramachandra, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The teachers concluded the aradhana with the kriti, Endaro Mahanubhavulu, a masterpiece, in which Tyagaraja pays obeisance to devotees through the ages.
