The senior ICSE boys competed at this year’s ASISC Football Tournament held at De’Mont School in Yercaud. Following last year’s 5 a side tournament where we finished runners up we entered this year hoping to go one better and return with the winner’s trophy.

After a first round bye we played Excel Central School in the second round. It was a good opening game for us with the team performing well and eventually winning comfortably 2-0. The victory took us into the quarter finals where we faced Ida Scudder School.

At the end of a below par first half we found ourselves losing 2-0. However, the second half was a completely different level of performance and we quickly pulled a goal back with captain Ananth Shankar (X) scoring his second goal of the competition. As we continued to pile on the pressure it was only a matter of time before we scored another goal to level the match. With less than a minute to go Varun S (X) scored the equaliser to send the team, the bench and supporting parents into a frenzy.

With the game tied, the match went into a penalty shoot out. At this stage it was either team’s game. After missing our first penalty, our goalkeeper Kush saved the opposition’s first penalty keeping the score level. We went on to score 2 of the next 4 penalties which unfortunately wasn’t enough to beat the opposition who converted 3 of their spot kicks. An unfortunate exit from the tournament following a gallant second half effort. Well done team
