2015 USIEF College Fair at IHS

As IHS continually strives to provide the best opportunities and experiences for its students, on October 5^th we were fortunate to host the 2015 United States India Educational Foundation’s (USIEF) annual college fair with around a dozen representatives from various universities across the U.S. (from California to New York and Minnesota to Florida). Our students were able to interact one-on-one with the admission representatives, learn what the universities had to offer and what was expected of them to gain admission. We were also fortunate to have a representative from the U.S. Consulate General’s office in Chennai discuss the visa process. Additionally, the students learned the fine art of professional networking while also dispelling the myth that education in the U.S. has to be a significant financial burden. As a college/career counselor for the school, this was a great experience for all of us and we plan on having several such events in the years to come.

Guest Assembly with Ms. Sruti Mohapatra

Who said that if you are paralyzed then you are different in the society? Shruti Mohapatra is one of the most inspirational people we have ever had the pleasure to meet. She was paralyzed at the age of 22 in a car accident. She is paralyzed from her neck all the way down to her toes. She has a helper called Shalini who helps her throughout her day. She is currently working for the rights of the disabled and she attends many conferences regarding this. On October 2 Ms. Mohapatra visited our school,she talked to us, she told us about her life, and how she overcame the situation. Today she travels to different schools and colleges in India to give inspirational talks to students. Shruti is a very intellectual and strong person who has inspired us a lot.

Gandhi Jayanti: Swachh IHS

 
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Junior and Middle School Hindi students put up an assembly to honour the father of the nation. Junior students presented two rhymes, ‘Gandhi Ji ke Teen Bandar’ and ‘Saachai ka Lekar Shastra’. The Middle School students presented two songs, ‘Namrata ke Saagar’ penned by Gandhiji himself and ‘Nikal Pado Re Bandhu.’ They also performed two skits, the first on a village that was divided on religious lines and in the end unite inspired by Bapu, and the second on Swachh Bharat and a call to action for all members of the school to participate in Swachh IHS. For the rest of the morning, students and teachers participated in a school-wide super clean.

IHS Celebrates Founder’s Day

On the occasion of Founder’s Day, students of class 8 expressed their gratitude by offering a cultural presentation. Each section performed a traditional folk dance. The first item was the ever so popular bhangra from the state of Punjab and the second piece was a fast-moving garba from the state of Gujarat. It was a reminder for all of us to live our lives joyfully and vibrantly.
